Our last post reviewed some favourite snapshots of Kate during her years at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. Once she and William left the relative privacy of the school, there was a lot of interest in Kate and she was often followed by photographers. She handled this pressure well and managed to never look too overwhelmed, even though it must have been at times.
In this case, she posed in front of gorgeous Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. This was in the summer of 2004, right after she left St. Andrew’s. Kate wasn’t posing for the paparazzi; she was modeling clothes for The Really Wild Clothing Company as a bit of a summer job/ favour for a friend. She never did formally pose while out and about at events…
It was all very hilarious:
In the summer of 2005, Kate was at the Gatcombe Park Horse Trials when she was asked by some photographers to pose for pictures. She declined telling them, “If I pose for you, I would have to pose for others, when I’m skiing and so on.”
This was shot was taken that day:
Love this pic of her looking wistful whileriding a double-decker bus on a day out in London. Too bad she can’t really do that anymore without creating a fuss:
Out and about with what looks like a holiday Starbucks cup:
Carrying a casserole dish en route to a dinner party:
Getting into the car:
Out skiing with perfect hair. Seriously:
Spying a photographer while shopping with mum at Peter Jones department store:
At a game with the royal brothers in 2007:
At the Cheltenham Races in March of 2007. Looks like her favourite might just be winning…
That same day:
Chatting during a RAF graduation ceremony for William in April of 2008:
And here she is getting right into the thick of things during a shooting lesson at Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate in November of 2011.
Kate and William were secretly engaged at this point (the engagement went down on October 23, 2011. Check out our post on that here). In their engagement interview, Kate mentions how they had been up in Scotland after their trip to Kenya and spoke to her parents about the engagement afterwards. She said,
“…actually we had quite an awkward situation because I knew and I knew that William had asked my father but I didn’t know if my mother knew. So I came back from Scotland and my mother made it sort of … didn’t make it clear to me whether she knew or not so both of us were there sort of looking at each other and feeling quite awkward about it. But it was amazing to tell her and obviously she was very happy for us.”
Well, that leads us to our next post on Kate Candids which will recount be post engagement and pre wedding. There are quite a few to go through. See ya then!
